shutterbabe: Prior to July fiasco, EAD is issued after regular FP; but I have not heard of separate FP to process EAD for Paperfiling cases. If you (have) efile(d) your AP, you will get a separate notice to FP for EAD without that your EAD will not be issued. I would advise you to take an inforpass appointment and discuss with I/O. At the worst case, you have them open a SR and take it from there.

If your case is I-140 + I- 485 applied at the same time, then word on the street is they will process both at the same time rather than processing I140 first then wait for visa dates and process I485, hope you are already aware of this rumor/speculation or truth.

I disagree, Number crunching if it can give the members an idea of how long it will take to get the GC will motivate them beyond any thing else. If ppl can see the unreasonable amount of time we have to wait before any thing can happen will make force them to take some action. So if any one can make sense of the numbers and if it is reliable please post it for the benifit of others.

They did not ask for old pay stubs. Interview was in Feb 08 so asked for 07 pay stub but not for 06 05 or 04.
About job responsibility.......I actually started stating what my current job responsibility is.........for real what is on LC is a subset of what I was describing so my guess is that the officer must have concluded that it matches to LC (she was looking at the document which had LC job responsibilities) and she moved to next question. If it did not match or there was some fumbling in answering the question she might have grilled me....:)

I use remit2India.com directly and they have best exchange rates/offers, looks like hdfc money transfer also use them as gateway and give lesser exchange than going thro them directly. Not great customer service but best rates so far and really not so bad marketing offers sometimes.

It will be interesting to hear from people who have or are required to sing certain contracts with their employers.
I am assuming the employers logic can be that - "well we were the ones who really paid for your labor cert" and that may be true as far as DOL is concerned. But my logic is if I reimburse you that money a year or two down the line, doesn't that mean that eventually I had to pay for my labor cert :)
I am also interested to know what kind of contracts the employers are having people sign - reimburse us if you leave within a certain time frame (2 or 3 years from when your GC process was initiated by the company) or are the contracts more like - reimburse us full amount no matter when you leave during pending GC process.

Chandu just mentioned that some means of contacting him is made. But he is very pivotal for this . As hez Obama campaign chairman , Senate No. 2 Ranking Democrat. The VFS website is good for FAQ. Also, their email reply service is appreciable as I had my doubts cleared in 24 hrs cycle. You can also call them, they DO answer. The dates keeps changing because, I think, of cancellations and other eventualities. Usually, people make appointments anticipating , and keep changing it as their schedules change. You can reuse your payment id for 1 year and hence one could make appointment for a date, KEEP LOOKING, and if you find another suitable, then cancel and reschedule right away. I believe the calendar is live or almost live. They do allow emergency appointments but I am not clear wehther you could do it from here or you need to be present there. Typically, if you have a good travel agent/company, they can handle it better in your favor.

I would say don't worry and go for it. I have done switch from being programmer to DBA and I won't lose a single second of sleep on that.

As your job will be similar you will have common words like "develop", "analyze" "test" etc. But how the whole thing matches word to word. As far as forum knowledge,Usually 485 approval updates would be either we sent u a welcome notice or approval notice sent or card production ordered etc.But when document mailed etc,i think it might be a RFE on ur 485 or may be ur AP document(by mistake,updated on ur 485).If u r extreme lucky,it could be ur GC!!!!

I was in this situation few years back. I was on bench for 8 months (not paid). I chose not to reply to the DOL letter. I feared that accepting that I was on bench for 8 months will make you out of status.
Every time you go for H1 revalidation, you will be asked were you out of status any time.
Later I have done 3 H1 revalidations (Canada), no problems. If sending reply is not mandatory then keep quiet. Six months later my employer filed for bankruptcy.

If I were you, I would send a letter with the facts. I do not see a downside to this. On the upside, if the employer decides to settle you could potentially get some of your money back.

Since I had a DUI in 2006, they told me to sumit medical report. When I submitted medican report on Dec 22, 2008 they told me they would review my report and tell me to deposit my passport if everything is fine (for visa stamping). They also told me that I don't need to come myself to deposit the passport. Since I had to get back to office, I left India and used AP to enter US.
I just received an email from consulate that I should submit passport at the ND consulate. I was thinking of sending it to my home in Delhi via courier so that my brother can submit it to consulate. Once consulate sends passport to my address in New Delhi, my family would courier it back to me. I wanted to check with folks here if that is fine.
